Prayers
Various Christian prayers enrich the lives of believers. They express truths of the Gospel, and help to maintain a personal connection with God. Besides attending Mass on a regular basis, churchgoers are invited to participate in various prayer groups and devotion, which deepen the faith and share in the heritage of prayer.
Daily Prayers
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Our Father,
Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day,
our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those
Who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, (all bow)
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.
I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven, (all bow)
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
Adoration
Adoration- a prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, the bread in the form of the Eucharist, which is consecrated during Holy Mass, in which Jesus Christ remains. With quiet meditation, hymns, reciting the prayer of St. Theresa of the Holy Infant Jesus together, the Christian community help lead the ministry of the priests. All laypeople, from the day of their Baptism, participate in a pastoral service, because they are called by Christ to not only direct their own lives in prayer, but also the lives of others, to offer up their hardships to the cross of Christ for salvation of all. Prayers for others strengthen interpersonal ties, create a community, and open the heart to the mercy of God.
The Rosary
The Rosary is a meditation, which together with the Blessed Virgin Mary, helps to reflect on the mystery of the life of Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection. During the prayer, a beaded chain is used, and the clergy member counts the number of Hail Mary‘s, but also reminds those in prayer about everyone‘s journey to God‘s eternal home.
The Crown of God‘s Mercy
The Crown of God‘s Mercy — is a short prayer, with which we call for God‘s mercy for ourselves and the whole world. Holy Sister Faustina, who lived in Vilnius, saw apparitions on September 13th and 14th, 1935, in which Jesus Christ invited everyone to pray for a troubled world, and taught her this prayer: Whoever recites this crown, will receive mercy, as my mercy is without bounds. Those who pray this crown in life, and especially at the hour of death, will be shrouded in My mercy, said Jesus.
Stations of the Cross
Stations of the Cross — is a prayerful meditation, reflecting on the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. It usually takes place in church, praying at the images of our Lord‘s sacrifice for man. These meditations encourage the prayerful to remember their sins, to ask for forgiveness, to vow to change, and to open up to God. It fosters gratitude to Jesus, because He suffered for the sins of man, died on the cross, and rose again. That is how suffering and death were defeated for the ages.
Mournful Lamentation
Mournful Lamentation-is a very old tradition in which the prayerful sing about the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. It encourages people to reflect on what Jesus did for the world. He was innocent and without sin, and gave his life on the cross for everyone. Dramatic, yet simple singing strengthens the faith, and invites generations of people to convert.
Litanies
Litanies are distinctive religious poems– they include a long series of petitions often taken from the Bible, with iterative answers. The prayerful souls pour out their love for the Savior‘s goodness and works, virtue of the saints, along with gratitude and prayer. (Liturginis maldynas. Vilnius: Katalikų pasaulis, 1996. P. 260).
